Question 1

Where do you provide custom woodworking and trim carpentry services in Jacksonville?

Accepted Answer

Brackish Custom Services provides professional custom woodworking and finish carpentry throughout the First Coast, including Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach, St John's, and Ponte Vedra. We specialize in bringing high-end, coastal-inspired custom wood solutions. We will custom-build in our woodshop and deliver to your location or provide professional installation.

Question 2

How much do custom built-ins and finish carpentry cost in Jacksonville, FL?

Accepted Answer

The cost of custom built-ins in Jacksonville typically depends on the wood species, dimensions, and complexity of the design. At Brackish, we provide transparent project estimates tailored to your specific needs—from simple laundry room cabinets to floor-to-ceiling library shelving with intricate crown molding. We are happy to provide you with a consultation and walk you through the various options and ideas we have to bring your idea to life.

Question 3

What is the best wood for custom furniture in Florida’s humid climate?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the location, amount of use and design you are looking for. For Jacksonville homes, we recommend stable hardwoods like Oak, Cypress, or Ash. These species handle Florida's humidity fluctuations better than softer woods. We also use moisture-resistant finishes to ensure your custom furniture and cabinetry remain beautiful and structurally sound year-round. We work with a variety of species and applications and can provide a menu of options that fit your project's expected use and budget best.

Question 4

Can you design custom built-ins that hide wires and electronics?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Modern custom woodwork and furniture should be as functional as it is beautiful. We specialize in "tech-ready" built-ins and entertainment centers that include integrated wire management, ventilated cabinets for AV equipment, and hidden storage for a clean, clutter-free look in your living room. We design it like it is going in our house and we want to hide the wires too!

Question 5

How long does the process take from design to installation?

Accepted Answer

Most custom woodworking projects follow a 4-to-8 week timeline. This includes an initial design consultation, custom material sourcing, shop fabrication, and final professional installation at your home. We provide a specific lead-time estimate with every quote to ensure your home renovation stays on track. We also communicate with you at every step of the way. You are part of our custom process!

Question 6

Why should I choose custom-built furniture over high-end retail options?

Accepted Answer

Unlike "big-box" furniture, Brackish custom pieces are built to the exact dimensions of your space using expert joinery and elevated hardware elements. This eliminates awkward gaps in your floor plan and provides a level of durability and material quality that mass-produced furniture cannot match. Your drawers will close smoothly and as we custom-install each piece, we will make sure everything works and is secure.

Question 7

Do you offer repair services for existing trim or furniture?

Accepted Answer

While our focus is on creating new custom wood pieces and built-ins, we often perform finish carpentry upgrades, such as replacing builder-grade baseboards or adding wainscoting to match existing architectural styles in historic Jacksonville neighborhoods like San Marco or Avondale. We are always to happy to take a look at your project and can provide guidance.

Question 8

Do custom built-ins and handcrafted furniture increase my home's resale value in Jacksonville?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Real estate trends show that "bespoke architectural details"—like floor-to-ceiling bookshelves or custom mudrooms—provide a significant return on investment. High-quality trim carpentry differentiates your property from builder-grade homes in neighborhoods like Nocatee or E-Town, often making it a "must-have" feature for luxury buyers looking for authentic craftsmanship. Check out local designers' social media and you will regularly see them feature these elements as key aspects of design and real estate selling points!

Question 9

Can you build custom storage solutions for smaller coastal condos or historic homes?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we specialize in "space-hacking" for smaller footprints. Whether it's a built-in banquette for a Neptune Beach condo or a custom-built closet for a historic San Marco bungalow, we design wood pieces that maximize every square inch. We focus on vertical storage and multi-functional designs that offer more utility than any "off-the-shelf" furniture ever could. We can add adjustable shelving and elements too so it can evolve with the needs of your home.
